🎉WA’s new gender recognition laws are officially in effect TODAY!🎉

This is a huge moment for trans and gender diverse people across Western Australia. We’ve made history by removing cruel and outdated legal barriers, finally ending the dehumanising and intrusive Gender Reassignment Board. This means a new, more respectful process to update gender markers on birth certificates, allowing many to finally have identification that accurately reflects their gender – and crucially, this includes legal recognition for non-binary people for the first time!
This significant reform is the result of many years of concerted and collaborative advocacy here in WA. We are so proud of our community, Rainbow Futures WA,
and everyone who fought tirelessly for this change.
While we celebrate this massive victory, we know the laws aren’t perfect. Transfolk WA will keep fighting for our community’s needs and the right to self-determine our identity.
Note that processing times may take approximately 4-6 weeks. Please be patient as the registry works through these!

We are updating Transfolk WA’s resources to reflect these new changes. In the meantime, you can access the government’s guide to the new processes via our Linktree at https://linktr.ee/transfolkofwa

Folk will also be able to submit a Change of Name application at the same time assuming all conditions for both applications have been met. They will be processed together.
Application forms can also be found directly online at:
