We are happy to announce that our guide to changing your legal gender in Western Australia has been updated for 2025! This resource reflects the recent changes in the process, making it easier for trans and gender diverse people to have their legal documents align with their preferred gender.

Here are some of the updates you’ll find in our guide!

  • The process to change your gender on your birth certificate is now more straightforward for adults and teenagers (aged 12-17) following the abolition of the Gender Reassignment Board in June 2025.
  • Non-binary folk can now have their gender affirmed on their WA birth certificate.
  • An outline the necessary steps, such as getting a support letter from a doctor or psychologist and providing proof of identity.
  • We’ve included specific pathways for adults, teenagers, and children, ensuring everyone has access to the information they need.
